Designing Structures and Systems for Adaptive Organizations

Organizations today operate within complex, rapidly changing environments that require structures and systems designed for learning, flexibility, and growth while building capacity and fostering connection across teams. Traditional operating models and governance approaches often limit adaptability, creating silos and slowing decision-making at critical moments.

This interactive 50-minute session draws on experience designing leadership and organizational systems across complex, cross-sector environments. Participants will explore how organizational design choices including team structures, operating models, and governance mechanisms shape adaptability and innovation. Through guided reflection, peer dialogue, and focused exercises, participants will examine how connection, clarity, and leadership behaviors function as leverage points within organizational systems.

Using real-world examples, participants will surface common misalignments between strategy, structure, and work portfolios, and explore design principles that support distributed leadership, learning, and resilience. Participants will leave with practical frameworks and reflection prompts to help assess their current structures and identify potential areas for adjustment within their organizations.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how organizational structures and systems influence adaptability
  • Identify one structural or governance friction point in their organization
  • Apply a practical diagnostic framework to surface misalignment
