The Human Side of Lean Portfolio Management
Lean Portfolio Management is often treated as a structural or financial challenge focused on funding models, prioritization frameworks, and governance processes. In practice, portfolio decisions are driven by people. Every priority, investment choice, and stop start decision reflects conversations, trust, and how leaders navigate uncertainty together.
This session explores Lean Portfolio Management through the lens of Individuals and Interactions. It focuses on how prioritization, funding, and tradeoff decisions are shaped by human behavior rather than tools or templates. Using Lean Obeya Management principles, participants will see how making work visible creates shared understanding and enables better conversations across product, finance, and delivery. Participants will leave with practical insights into how to lead portfolio conversations with clarity, a focus on tradeoffs and value, turning Lean Portfolio Management into a system that supports learning, alignment, and sustainable value delivery.
Learning Outcomes:
- Facilitate healthier prioritization and funding conversations across product, finance, and delivery
- Use Lean Obeya principles to enable transparency, trust, and shared ownership
- Lead stop-start and tradeoff decisions in ways that preserve morale and momentum
- Shift portfolio discussions from “defending plans” to learning and adaptation
